Introduction

The level cap in the second Alpha of Diablo Immortal is level 55, however, we know that for release the cap will be increased to level 60. After hitting the level cap, players receive Paragon points, which are shared between all characters on your account. Paragon points grant access to five different Paragon skill trees:

  1. Survivor unlocks at Paragon 1 and mainly grants defensive bonuses.
  2. Vanquisher unlocks at Paragon 1 and mainly grants offensive bonuses.
  3. Treasure Hunter unlocks at Paragon 50 grants Magic Find, Gold Find, and Experience (EXP) bonuses.
  4. Gladiator unlocks at Paragon 100 and is focused on Player vs Player (PvP) benefits.
  5. Soldier unlocks at Paragon 150 and provides amazing PvP & PvE bonuses for you and your group!

Please note that Diablo Immortal is in its Alpha stage, everything written here is subject to change!

The Paragon User Interface: Tap to open the associated Paragon skill tree

Each Paragon skill tree consists of two different types of nodes:

  • Permanent Attributes (Circles): Once learned, this attribute bonus is always applied to your character.
  • Specialization Skills (Rectangles): Once learned, this skill's bonus is applied only when the specialization is active !

The Player can select which paragon skill tree is active, so the first order of business: Always have a paragon tree activated! There can only be one paragon skill tree active at the same time. Note: Paragon points can be saved for when you unlock a new skill tree to instantly assign multiple points into an unlocked tree!

Survivor

Grants defensive bonsues, making you tougher.

The Survivor Paragon Tree

The Survivor tree offers better benefits early on for all classes. Save this tree for later if you are a melee character like Barbarian, Monk and Crusader to survive longer in the battlefield. Usually you want to skip Stalwart and go straight into Indestructible into Damage.

Paragon Scaling

Just like in Diablo 3, early Paragon levels are easy to come by in Diablo Immortal. In the Alpha Paragon experience required per level starts at around 1 million experience points per level and stops scaling completely at Paragon level 59, which requires 9,696,000 experience points per level. Efficient players can farm over 10 million experience per hour, and gain one Paragon level in that time (more on that below). Here is a full list of each Paragon level and the required experience.

Paragon Experience Farming

As of the 2nd Alpha, Paragon does NOT offer significant power increases to your character! This might change with the introduction of new Paragon trees after 150. However Paragon is one of the few high scaling progression systems in the game. After you are done upgrading all your gear to rank 20, farming Paragon is still beneficial, especially the Paragon 150 Gladiator tree for Player vs Player.

Now that we've covered all the Paragon Trees, let's learn how to farm experience effectively:

  • Play in Groups and Farm Dungeons
In groups you have awesome synergies that you can use to maximize damage output, clear high content faster, die less due to toughness buffs from your party members, and split farm effectively. The only real way to farm Paragons is to do Dungeons as a group as the experience scaling is crazy. While in a 4-player group, and only in a 4-player group, you get 150% EXP bonus. The best Dungeons to farm are: Mad King's Breach, Forgotten Tower and Caverns of Echoes.
  • Split Farming
In groups you can split farm these Dungeons effectively. With a good group character composition and dedicated tasks for each class, you can reach new heights! The fastest classes should be flying ahead to activate events in the dungeons, the AoE blasters should destroy the monster density, and the boss killers should prepare BEFORE the boss spawns to erase it out of existence immediately!
  • Never Stay in Town
Town is Lava - in Town you get 0% experience. Be fast with your town rotation, put potential useful items in your stash, and identify in bulk to reduce town time even further.
  • Join Voice with Your Group
Communicate, sync your breaks, and plan a schedule to play ahead of time.
  • Follow the Current EXP META
There are big differences in classes and builds that are played. Look for good group synergy and follow the current EXP here.
  • Maximize Your Battlepass Every Week
Your Battlepass is capped to 2,400 points per week and grants you additional experience points whenever you level it up (usually after 180 points at high levels). This can increase your EXP per hour by roughly 20% when doing full Dungeon clears.
  • Pay Attention to Massacre Bonuses
In some dungeons, they're free and easily to pick up. In some, you're supposed to skip them, they're not worth it. In some, they're worth it, but require coordination and/or "holding" a monster alive to keep the bonus alive. Another thing is you usually get massive points if you can involve a boss in a massacre bonus. The monsters you kill along the way matter. The highest massacre bonus you can reach is 100. Be sure to check our Dungeon Guide for more in-depth information.
  • Enjoy the Game
You will play way more and automatically get more Paragon level when you enjoy what you do!

Weekly Experience Cap

Currently there is a weekly experience cap of 120 million experience in the game. So after farming 120 million experience, you only receive 20% experience from killing monsters. However not all the experience you gain counts towards the cap. Furthermore, not all experience is reduced when you reach the cap. Here are the experience sources that don't interact with the cap:

  • Experience Globes from Elites and Pool of Reflections
  • Quest experience from Bounties, Events, Dungeons and Faction dailies
  • Battlepass experience rewards

In the end your total effective experience gain is roughly cut in half.

Once you are experience capped you also cannot find Blue and Yellow Items anymore. You only get White and Legendary Items! This is a devastating penalty as it significantly slows down your gear upgrade progression . You want to avoid hitting this experience cap early in the week to still get the full amount of crafting materials.

In organized groups you can farm up to 14 million EXP per hour. Around 4 million of that usually counts towards the cap, so it takes around 30-40 hours of farming to reach it.

Philosophy Behind The EXP Cap and Upcoming Changes

Why was an EXP Cap implemented in the first place? There are a few explanations that we have seen in the wild. Without assuming which of these (if any) are correct, it's important to list them because the community has deeply debated this question.

  • Some players might play the game an enormous amount (10+ hours per day), resulting in them pulling too far ahead of even dedicated players (3+ hours per day). This could upset the balance of an otherwise healthy group-based PvP-oriented endgame.
  • The EXP Cap is designed to limit the effects of botting, by making it ineffective to grind EXP 24/7.
  • It's unhealthy to play that many hours, especially on a phone game which doesn't offer proper ergonomics unless you have a proper set up

We expect significant changes to the EXP Cap in the beta and at release based on Blizzard's August 2021 update.

During the 2nd Alpha the best way to farm Paragon was to create multiple characters "alts". Paragons are shared account-wide just like they are in Diablo 3, while the experience cap and the Battlepass cap are limited to each character. Players created 2-3 "alts" to farm up to 3 Battle Passes and experience caps for 100+ hour experience grind per week. The concept was to farm Mad King or Countess until the Battle Pass is capped and then split farm Tomb of Fahir for insane amounts of experience per hour.
Blizzard did not like the idea of players just killing 1 boss then leaving, so they will likely make changes to prevent this in the future (like backloading a dungeon's XP and rewards).

Here you can find a full overview with results of us testing every activity in the game in terms of:

  • Experience per hour
  • Crafting Materials per hour
  • Gold per hour

Enjoy!

In a recent blogpost Blizzard shared plans to make a lot of changes to the current Paragon system, so more information will come out as Diablo Immortal development continues. Stay tuned!
