How to Remove Bumper Stickers from Auto Glass

Bumper stickers are a great way to decorate your car, promote an idea or just let everyone know what you stand for. Sometimes these bumper stickers can get outdated. Whether it's just that a certain President isn't running for President anymore or that you've matured and decided your old bumper sticker is just plain weird, you've decided that it is time for the bumper sticker to go. Unfortunately, bumper stickers can be a pain to get off, especially when they're on your auto glass. Fortunately, though, Discount Auto Glass knows just how to peel a sticker off your auto glass without leaving a mark.
Heat will help soften the plastic sticker and make it easier to peel off. There are a few approaches you can take to getting the sticker off without damaging your car.
1. Boiling Water
All you need for this method is a rag and boiling water. Wet the rag in the water and apply it to the sticker. Soak the sticker for at least one minute and then peel from the corners. Use a plastic scraper, old credit card or rubber spatula to remove residue.
Many sources will recommend using a razor blade to remove the adhesive, however we strongly discourage the use of a razor blade at Discount Auto Glass. The use of a razor blade can result in scratched or damaged auto glass.
2. Soapy Water
For this method, you need to mix dish soap and warm water. Soak a rag in the soapy water and soak the sticker for one minute. Finally, scrape the residue from the window. This method is slightly less effective than the boiling water method, but it is also slightly safer as you do not run the risk of burning yourself on the water.
3. WD-40
Pour a small amount of WD-40 on a rag and rub the edges of the sticker. Peel from the corner of the sticker using your fingers and then scrape the remaining residue from the window using a plastic scraper, old credit card or spatula. Finish by wiping the area with a rag dipped in rubbing alcohol.
4. Blow Dryer
Use this method to melt the plastic and make it easier to scrape off. Turn a blow dryer to its low setting and hold at least six inches from the sticker. Do not turn the dryer to a higher setting than low as extreme amounts of heat can chip your car's paint. After heating the sticker for at least 30 seconds, begin to peel the sticker from the corners while continuing to use the blow dryer. Scrape the remaining residue with a spatula or credit card and rub the area with rubbing alcohol.
Hopefully, you will be able to use one of these four methods to rid your car of unwanted stickers. Remember not to use a razor blade or any other unprotected, sharp metal to remove the stickers as they can damage your glass.
